Are caps and collars available for the 2x4 vinyl post sleeve?

Color guard does make a 2x4 vinyl post sleeve, available in white, tan, and clay. However, we do not manufacture a cap or collar for that sleeve.

Q: Will aluminum railing rust?

Because of the properties of aluminum, it should not rust. Plus, our products are coated to resist corrosion.

Q: How far can I span between posts?

Deck posts should be no further than 8 feet apart. Keep in mind that all Color Guard rails are true to length (6 feet is 6 feet).

Q: What angle should my stairs be?

Stair codes and guidelines prefer an angle of around 37° for normal stairways and around 7° for ramps. There is, of course, some wiggle room in that, which is why our vinyl stair brackets accommodate 23-38 degrees, and our aluminum line can accommodate up to 38 degrees.

Q: Do I need to have handrail on my steps?

Q: What’s a post vs. post sleeve?

A post is a structural element of the deck, usually made from pressure treated wood or metal. It could also be a post mounting system like Patriot Post Mount . A post sleeve is a vinyl or aluminum covering that slips over the post to give it a certain look. It is purely for aesthetics and has no structural qualities.

Q: What is code for railing height?

While some local codes deviate from this, all decks that are built 24 inches above grade (ground level) must have guard rails, and for the most part, these rails must: Have a minimum height of 36 inches Have maximum spindle spacing of 4 3/8 inches Be designed and constructed to withstand a 200-pound load applied from any direction Installed on stairs with more than three risers (additional requirements apply to stairs) Whether they are required or not, one can always make an argument to add railing to any deck project.
